Shiva, how about having UWI students work on the lab during the summer
vacation? they would benefit by learning about hardware and some LAN
networking. i'm thinking this can be done over a couple of weeks.

we should then be able to sort out the equipment we have and then move
it to other sites.........

i will also need you to be the lead person. what kind of arrangement
can we work out?

no problem with heading a uwi summer program like that.

I will have to be in July and must not clash with my other classes.

great!

here's what i have in mind. everyone, please have an input in this.

We have about 20 PCs (Pentiums, PIIs), some accessories and peripherals.
Most Comp. Sci. students in UWI currently do not have much exposure to
hardware and can't do basic things like change RAM, install hard drives,
etc.

Our objective will be to give them some exposure into the handling of
these PCs by opening them up, testing various devices and components,
and finally networking them into a workable LAN. Thus giving them some
practical experience with material they won't usually cover in their
degree courses.

Once we have the machines up and running, we can then be able to move
some of them to other sites (community centres, etc) and keep a few in
the lab for test purposes.

I'm thinking this can be done in one week, at half-day sessions.

in july. shiva can you announce the dates when you have it settled?
I'll need to know ASAP so i can make an announcement on the UWICS
mailing list.

RHS, depending on the dates and times, can you be available for the
workshops?

Try to get firm commitments from them before you go out of your way. They
are not an easy crown to read.

before going there.
